uncovering the secrets, nuances and best practices of SAMPLES for all manners of music industry professionals- especially independent artists.
Speaker Brock Shinen (bio below) comes from many years of experience as an entertainment attorney and is well equipped to educate on the nuances of how samples work in the legal world! Artists, managers, DJs, agents, all are welcome to join us for this event.
We will be exploring the following questions regarding the rules for sampling music:
1. How do I know if a sample is cleared for my usage?
2. What happens when royalty free sample sites like Splice give out samples that multiple artists use?
3. How do I as an artist license out my own original samples for others to use?
4. How do samples work with parody or remixes? Is there a gray area?
5. How do I enforce copyright infringement if someone uses my sample? Inversely how do I appeal if someone claims I used their sample but it wasn’t?
